Why Feminism May Never Work

Reminiscing about the 1988 movie, 'Coming to America'. There's a character that's really hard to forget and that was the African  princess that was brought for Prince Hakeem to marry. The lady was totally hilarious. Two words define her personality, 'Pretty spineless'. She behaved and even said that she was raised to please the prince. Hello, one human being raised to please another?

As  comical as her role might be, it's sad to know that she symbolises about 80% of the population of the women in the world. Most women have been raised to be a pleasure package. Easily co-opted, not having a mind of their own. The society says you are a woman/wife so, you are made to make your husband happy by, making sure the house is tidy, Cooking good food for him, Giving him children (Especially  boys that will bear his name) and making yourself always available for sex even when you don't have the urge.

Since the 19th century women have been  agitating for equal rights and equal opportunities. There's a term for them; Feminists. So it brings me to the question, What exactly is Feminism.
It is a social theory or political movement arguing that legal and social restrictions on females must be removed in order to bring about equality of both sexes in all aspects of public and private life.
I strongly believe that feminism may never work. Feminism would be considered a joke if women intentionally allow themselves to be portrayed as sex symbols. Talk about Video vixens. Naked women with world changing potentials smiling sheepishly to the camera. Like they are saying, look at me, my body is all I've got to offer. I'm a sex toy, instrument of pleasure. It's annoying, like a betrayal to womanhood. There's one British singer that has earned my respect over the years. Adele. She sells music not sex. I think that's how women should be.

Most women agitate to be in political offices but when elected they turn out to be massive flops then later turn back to say they failed because they are weaker vessels. Going back to the initial statement that they are trying to debunk.
Some women are feminists when it favours them and anti feminist when it does not. How can you claim to be a feminist when you still expect a guy to open doors for you, foot the bill at the hangout centres, pay the rent for the house you both live in. Isn't that hypocritical?

Some women can't engage in a cerebral discussion for more than 2 minutes. They want to talk about beauty. Who and who's carrying an imitated version of Versace. Whose Givenchy dress is  catching the most attention. I'm not saying fashion is bad. I am just saying women with shallow minds are all over the place. We all see them around, dressed like porcelain dolls. They do not even know about things that matter around them. So, with those kind of a ladies how do we all expect Feminism to work out.
Finally,  if you are not a J.K Rowling or an Oprah Winfrey or better still a Mo Abudu, don't claim to be a feminist because you still have to depend on the male folk for your survival. Women really need to take their place in the world's economy if Feminism would ever work out. We are not  weak, we're powerful.
Have a great day,
Love ya loads.
Kizzes.

Feminism is a hard thing to define or if not to define to execute. Women (and men) have a different approach or outlook on what rights are more important to them. For some it's having equal financial and educational opportunities. For others is a completely stripping of double standards in any aspect including the freedom to express their sexuality. It's truly a hard topic to find a middle ground because I feel like people know what feminism should encompass but not how to truly bring it about. Thanks for the food for thought. Great stuff!

I feel sad that you haven't met a good feminist role model and I hope you do one day. I understand where you are coming from. It isn't fun that women can be and have been wishy washy. But can you blame them when it's been so ingrained that they can only be a sex idol for man's viewing pleasure. There is a lot of things a woman has to overcome to to not be wishy washy. I also think that feminism is changing not to be just female rights but all rights. Men are hurting too, they are being taught to "man up" and "don't be a girl". Feminism is changing to educate all humans on the betterment and equality of all. And that's what's important. My favorite blogger Bella Brita http://bellebrita.com/ is a great explain of feminism and has some beautiful posts explaining things.

This is a good start! I would love to hear more about YOUR ideals, and how YOU think we should work together. However, i couldn't agree more about the sad reality that feminism will never work. Personally, I feel we can't work on women's rights when we are still segregating ourselves by race and religion.

I don't think that feminism will never work, just that it is an uphill battle. I think that if we all stand strong in our beliefs and teach our children the same, that we can help to change the future.
